Youth Engagement and Hiking Program: Moodwalks

In 2015 we implemented a Moodwalk program with the support of the Canadian Mental Health Association, Hike Ontario, and Conservation Ontario. We were trained to be hike leaders and offer a hiking group to youth in transition. Since then, we have been able to continue to run this hiking group and evaluate the program outcomes which included: mood, energy, anxiety, and overall wellbeing throughout the program.

We continue to offer the program within our YEwG (Youth Engagement working Group) and offer opportunities for youth to experience the positive physical and mental health outcomes – all while accumulating volunteer hours. The YEwG is a group of young people, through the support of Lynwood Charlton Centre, that advocate for the awareness of mental health in youth. The youth in this group come from a variety of schools and programs within the city of Hamilton – together we work at breaking down the barriers around mental health stigma. We strive to be a voice for those suffering with mental health challenges.

We continue to host Moodwalks bi-weekly and invite youth to join us on our hikes. For more information please check out our social media platforms or call 905-577-1020.

Take a hike with us!

We presented our Moodwalk program at the Feb 2017 Moodwalk Summit in Toronto.
